What Our Patients Say
-Katherine M, 2009
Our Vision and Hearing practice will now asking each of our patients age 60 and older to call and schedule an annual hearing exam. It is important to have a baseline understanding of how you are hearing is today and take the steps to address whatever level of hearing loss you may have. 21st century hearing aid technology comes in all shapes and sizes. There is a solution for you and the sooner our patients take advantage of those solutions, the sooner your quality of hearing will increase.
When scheduling your annual hearing exam we suggest bringing a family member, loved one, significant other or friend that is familiar with your lifestyle and may be the one who is always repeating themselves or is constantly being asked to turn the television volume up. When you can’t hear and consistently misunderstand conversations, the changes in your behavior may be far more noticeable than wearing hearing aids. Many people with hearing loss discontinue social activities resulting in isolation, depression and constant visits to the doctor trying to address an issue that is not hearing related but caused by reduced hearing.
The complete exam will take approximately 60-90 minutes. Our practice will only book five evaluations per day to assure our patients have the time necessary to ask questions and leave with a full understanding of their baseline hearing and what options are available.
Using state of the art technology, we systematically perform a series of painless tests designed to predict the body’s neurological and mechanical abilities to detect and amplify sound as well as determining your ability to interpret speech. The hearing test time is dependent on the amount of hearing loss and whether or not a hearing aid fitting needs to occur.
Like anything else that is new to your life, adjusting to hearing aids will not occur overnight. Unlike vision restoration or other types of restoration procedures, hearing aids “do not” bring back your hearing to the quality you had as a child. Hearing aids, when fitted properly by a licensed Hearing Care Professional to accommodate your individual needs will allow you to hear the sounds that have slowly disappeared over the years. To work towards the best result, our Hearing Care Professional will fit you with a hearing aid best suited for your needs. If you require a custom order, we will schedule an appointment for a follow up fitting within 5-7 days of the order. During your fitting we will go through a series of adjustments and directions to help maximize your hearing experience. We will then look forward to seeing you two more times over the next 3-5 weeks and answer any questions you may have and to be sure that you are satisfied with the quality of your hearing aid and the incredible quality of life experiences you will have, filled with sounds you have missed out for many years.
